
Spitfires Triple Up Flint, 9-3

The Spitfires offence was on fire Wednesday night, Harrison led the way with 5 points followed by a Christopoulos hat-trick and Maggio with a 3-assist night in a big 9-3 win.
In the first period, the Firebirds got up to an early 2-0 lead. Just about halfway through the period, Cristoforo appeared to score but it was reviewed no goal and he got hurt on the play. He returned a few minutes later. The 2nd half of the period turn into the Spitfires favour with some momentum from a powerplay. On the powerplay, Harrison carried the puck over the blue line off the rush and found a streaking Christopoulos back-door for a tap in and his 31st of the season. Just a minute and 45 seconds later, it was Harrison scoring on a rebound from Maggio to tie the game at 2. It was Harrison's 27th on the season. The Spitfires led in shots 16-13 after the period.
In the second period, the Spitfires offence kept its pace and were able to take their first lead. A turnover in the Flint zone landed on the stick of Greentree who centered it to Smith who scored his 19th of the season giving the Spits a 3-2 lead. Just over a minute later, Dionicio would score his 4th with the Spits and 8th on the season to give the Spits a 4-2 lead. The Firebirds would respond with a goal of their own to make it 4-3. The Spitfires would respond on the powerplay with Harrison's 2nd on the night on a quick one-timer to make it 5-3. A few minutes later, it was Harrison again finding a backdoor pass this time to Maillet who scored his 18th of the season to make it 6-3. The Spitfires led 32-25 in shots after the 2nd.
In the third period, the Spitfires offence continued as Maillet netted his 2nd of the evening for a 7-3 Spits lead just over 2 minutes in. Just 3 minutes later, Christopoulos added his 2nd of the evening to give the Spits an 8-3 lead with 15 minutes to play in the third. Just 5 minutes later, Christopoulos would score his hat-trick to cap off a big 9-3 win for the Spitfires in Flint.
The Spitfires are right back at it tomorrow vs the visiting Soo Greyhounds at the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
