Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON.
It was a Saturday to remember for the Spitfires in their annual teddy bear toss game. The local boy Noah Morneau made it rain Teddy Bears and the Spitfires won 5-2 for their 3rd straight win.
In the first period, the Colts silenced the crowd by scoring first just over 8 minutes into the game. The Spitfires would have multiple chances to tie it up but couldn't bury the puck in the first. The Spitfires had 12 shots while Barrie had 6 through 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Spits fans wee getting a little antsy. So many opportunities went by the wayside but it was the local product Noah Morneau scoring at the 11 minute mark and the Teddy Bear goal with his 3rd of the season. Just a minute and 42 seconds later the Spitfires would gain the lead. Smith got the puck to Christopoulos who found Peer in the circle and he sniped his 12th of the season. The Spitfires would have a narrow 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Spitfires continued to pour on the pressure. Just over 4 minutes into the period, Ethan Miedema made a highlight reel evasion, toe drag and snipe for his 8th of the season. And it was the OHL play of night. Just 5 minutes later the Colts would be rewarded with a penalty shot and Cardwell converted. The Spitfires would add on 2 late empty netters from Maillet and Smith both record their 10th of the season.
The Spitfires swept the weekend with a big win and outscored their opponents 18-6 over the 3 games in 3 days.
The Spitfires are back in action on Thursday December 8th when the Ottawa 67s come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm. It is also our Socks and Bottoms event, be sure to bring them for those in need.
