Downey's Career Night, Sova & Cohen's Pair Lead Explosive Offense to 7-3 Win

Erie, Pennsylvania - Back home after a Friday night loss in Guelph, the Erie Otters would welcome the Eastern Conference's Mississauga Steelheads for the two teams second meeting of the season. Winless in their last four, the Otters would look to stay above .500, coming in with a 10-10-0-3 record. Mississauga would bring a 3-5-2 record in their last 10 games into the contest with the Otters, hoping to continue their early-season success against Erie. Kyle Downey would get the start in net for Erie.

Following a 4-2 loss on home ice on Friday, the Mississauga Steelheads would come out shooting in Saturday night's game. Of the 21 shots fired in the first period, Mississauga would claim 14 of them. With the heavy-shooting, it would be no surprise the Steelheads would open scoring. On a failed breakaway opportunity James Hardie (13) would still be able to punish the Otter defense - sniping over the shoulder of Kyle Downey to make it 1-0. On a too-many-men penalty against Mississauga, the Erie Otters would make the Steelheads pay with Spencer Sova (11) grabbing his sixth power play goal of the season to tie things up 1-1. With 20 minutes in the book, Erie and Mississauga would be knotted up at 1-1; Steelheads leading in shots 14-7.

The shootout from the Mississauga side would continue in the second, as Downey would have to stop 15 of 16 shots faced. Despite the one-sided shots, it would be the Otters who would open scoring in the frame, as Spencer Sova (12) would score one from point blank near the right circle. Erie would go up 2-1, and lead for the first time in the night. Mississauga would be able to knot the game up near the halfway point of the game, as Mason Zebeski (2) would fire one through traffic. :61 later, Erie would retake the lead from a beautiful Carey Terrance (11) goal on a two-on-two. On the penalty kill late, Kyle Downey would steal a Save of the Year candidate moment from James Hardie to send Erie into the intermission up 3-2. Mississauga would continue its shots lead 30-19.

Erie's offense would finally unleash in the third period after so many games. Opening and closing scoring in the frame would be Elias Cohen (9, 10) who would grab a three-point night. Sam Alfano (6) would grab goals in back-to-back games and a three point night as well. Finally, Noah Sedore (5) would grab his second point of the night enroute to a seven-goal night. James Hardie (14) would get the lone-goal of the Steelhead effort, as the Otters would grab a 7-3 victory to snap the four-game skid. Kyle Downey would grab a career-high 38-save night on 41 shots faced, as he would continue his success in Erie.

Erie will have a few days rest, and stay at home for the next three games starting Tuesday. Tuesday night will be a make-up date for the previously-postponed game with the Saginaw Spirit. Friday will welcome the Windsor Spitfires to town for the rescheduled Children's Grief Awareness Night (pres. by Highmark Caring Place), and Saturday sees Kingston come to town for Night of Champions - celebrating the 20th and 5th Anniversaries of the Otters' OHL Championships.
