Spitfires shoot down Otters

WINDSOR, Ont. – Steve Downie scored his second goal of the game in the final second of regulation to lift the Windsor Spitfires to a 5-4 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played this afternoon in front of 1,869 at the Windsor Arena.

David Lomas added two goals for the winners while Josh Scott Dickson netted the other.

Cal O'Reilly and Ryan Garlock collected two assists each.

Ryan O'Marra paced the Otters with a pair of goals. Brett MacLean, with his first career OHL goal, and David Herring had the others. Derek Merlini and Rob Hisey had two assists each.

The Otters saw their four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) come to end and dropped to 4-2-1 with the loss. The Spitfires ended a three-game losing streak to move to 3-5-2-1.

Windsor led 2-1 after one and 4-2 heading into the third. O'Marra and Herring scored in the opening six minutes of the thirds to tie the game at four before Downie cemented the victory.

The Otters out shot the Spitfires 39-38 in the game as Josh Disher took the loss.

The three stars of the game were 1. Lomas; 2. O'Marra and 3. Downie.

The Otters complete their three-game road trip tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon in Guelph against the Storm. The game can be heard in its entirety on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) immediately following Steelers Football.

The next Otters home game takes place Friday, October 22nd when the Toronto St. Michael's Majors make their first visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
