(Plymouth, MI)- Despite troubles on the power play, the Plymouth Whalers are still undefeated at the Compuware Sports Arena after defeating the struggling Kingston Frontenacs 3-2. In the first period it appeared as both teams were feeling each other out. With Plymouth being in the Western Conference and Kingston in the East, they did not know what to expect from each other.

Todd Griffith opened up the scoring with his sixth goal of the season just 2:06 into the second period. A trend in this game was the Whalers responding to every Kingston goal, and Vaclav Meidl responded minutes later to tie the game up. Anthony Stewart, a prospect of the Florida Panthers, gave Kingston the lead of 2-1 less then two minutes after the Whalers tied i up. It was a long shot that seemed to fool Whalers goalie Ryan Nie, who has been great in net so far this season.

Andrew Fournier would quickly tie the game again 17 seconds later after beating Frontenacs goalie Dayne Davis. The big moment of the contest was when Cory Tanaka scored his first career Ontario Hockey League goal on a partial breakaway and the crowd erupted in celebration after the score.

Plymouth had the advantage in shots over Kingston 48-34. Both teams went 0-5 on the power play, but Plymouth could never get its power play set up. Kingston was able to get its power play set up better, but Nie was up to the task in stopping the shots.

Note: Kingston Center Bobby Hughes received a 10 minute misconduct late in the first period for unsportsmanlike conduct.

3 Stars:

1. PLY Vaclav Meidl

2. PLY Andrew Fournier

3. KGN Anthony Stewart
