Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Windsor Spitfires announced Thursday that their fans, staff, players and ownership were able to raise a total of $34,275 for Grow On Windsor, a local fundraising campaign created by the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation in 2015.
The Grow On Windsor Campaign takes place every November in support of cancer awareness, research and treatment for men living in Windsor-Essex. Prior to the 2020 campaign, Grow On Windsor had raised more than $1 million and, most importantly, every dollar raised in the region stays in the region.
The Spitfires were able to contribute $34,275 to the campaign's overall fundraising total of $300,780, a figure that will go toward helping men affected by cancer in the region. Funds will help buy two pieces of new equipment including the Blue Phantom and the microSTARii System, which are both used in radiation treatments.
Top fundraisersÃÂ included Spits owner Brian Schwab and his wife Lisa along with fellow member of the ownership group Stephen Savage. Spitfires assistant coach Jerrod Smith managed to raise $500 for the initiative and Spitfires playersÃÂ also contributed.
