Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires were close to losing the streak but fought off the Spirit in a close affair before winning their 13th straight.

In the first period, Daniel D'Amico continued his hot streak scoring his 31st goal of the season just 3:34 into this one. Henault and a slick assist, demonstrated excellent vision and found D'Amico trailing. Johnston has the 2nd assist on the goal. The Spitfires had a 4 minute PK to kill of which they did and just under a minute after the Spitfires extended their lead to 2-0. Maggio skated down the ice and made a nifty move to the net but got hooked and couldn't finish the play. He kept the puck and found Baisov in front of the net wide open would made no mistake scoring his 2nd on the season. The Spitfires led in shots 11-6 after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the Spitfires got on the board just 58 seconds into the frame. Cuylle's shot hit off the goalie and off the defense and in. Johnston had the lone assist on the goal. The Spirit scored two goals in two and a half minutes to make it a 3-2 game. The Spitfires led in shots 19-17 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Spirit scored just over a minute and a half into the period to tie the game at 3. The Spitfires had to kill off a 4 minute penalty and they did so successfully. On the ensuing PK, the Spitfires appeared to score shorthanded off the end boards but it was ruled back after a 10 minute review. With the game tied no team wanted to make a mistake. Late in the period, Oliver Peer got the puck from Christopoulos and Peer went in and split the defence before roofing it for a highlight reel game winning goal! The Spitfires Abraham added an empty net and took the win 5-3.

The Spitfires are back in action in Erie on Friday night for a 7pm puck drop and then Saturday in Guelph for our last regular season game at 7pm.
