Erie Otters News Release

Flint, Michigan - For the final time in the 2021-22 season, the Erie Otters hit the road. The final away game would take the Otters back to where their season started in Flint to take on the Firebirds. With the Otters looking to jump back into the playoff picture, and the Firebirds hoping to hold third and secure third place in the OHL Western Conference, it would be a game with plenty to play for between two American foes. Aidan Campbell would get the start in net, opposite of the Luke Cavallin.

A back-and-forth first period would see the goaltenders shine brighter than anyone else on the ice, as 15 shots would be fired, and 15 saves would be made by the two goaltenders - eight from Campbell, seven from Cavallin. Erie would go 2/2 on the penalty kill, but 0/1 on the power play. After 20 minutes of play, it would be an 8-7 shots advantage for Flint, but otherwise, a wide-open, 0-0 game for either side to take advantage of.

Scoring would open up under three minutes into the second period, as Tag Bertuzzi (20) would get the Firebirds on the board with Flint's 10th shot of the night. While Erie would continue to struggle in the faceoff dot, they would control the shots in the second period, and it would ultimately finally lead to the team to their first goal of the night as Brendan Sellan (20) would fire home a rebounded shot from Ryan Thompson. Erie would make it 1-1 halfway in. On the power play in the final three minutes, Dmitry Kuzmin (17) would net his fourth power play goal of the year to make it a 2-1 Flint lead after 40. Erie would collect a late power play, and would carry over 1:15 of extra-man time into the third.

In the third period, Flint would dominate with a 16-8 shots advantage. Sahil Panwar (17) would score an unassisted shorthanded goal to give Flint a 3-1 lead just 1:04 into the third, and Zack Terry (9) would put the game on ice 12:42 in with the fourth goal of the night for Flint. The Firebirds would take the win 4-1, outshooting the Otters 34-29.

The playoff push continues for the Otters, still on the outside looking in. Erie spends the rest its four regular season games at the friendly confines of the Erie Insurance Arena, taking on Kitchener Monday, Guelph on Tuesday, Windsor on Good Friday, and Hamilton Spectator Trophy winner Hamilton Bulldogs on Easter Sunday. Puck drop is 6 P.M. for the Monday/Tuesday pair, 7 P.M. for Good Friday, and 2 P.M. for Easter Sunday.
