Windsor Spitfires News Release
WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires headed to Sarnia for their third preseason game.
It was another fairly new lineup as they had 12 players out of the lineup with injuries or away at NHL camps. The game started on a bad note the same as the first two games as they gave up the games first two goals and in a hole 2-0 however both this time were on the powerplay. The Spitfires struck back late in the period with a powerplay goal of their own. Maillet won the faceoff back to Woodall and he passed it to Greentree who scored from the top of the circle to cut the lead in half. The Spitfires had a narrow 12-11 shot lead after 20 minutes.
In the second period, Sarnia would restore their 2-goal lead just 40 seconds into the frame. With just over 5 minutes to play the Sting would extend their lead to 4-1. The Spitfires would have two powerplay opportunities but to no avail. The Spitfires led 22-17 in shots after 40 minutes.
in the third period, the Sting would score another to take a 5-1 lead with just 4:40 to play. The time would run out and the Spitfires would fall by a 5-1 score. They are 1-2-0 in preseason action with 2 more games to go.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow Thursday September 21st as the Firebirds are in town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
