
Spitfires Fall to Niagara 6-4 in Preseason Action

The Spitfires got down 3-0 early and mounted a big comeback but fell 6-4 in Port Colborne.
In the first period, the Spitfires conceded three goals in the first 9 minutes. The Spitfires would then score twice within 2 and a half minutes to make it a close game. Greentree scored his first unassisted and Peer had the 2nd goal. The Spitfires trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, both teams had powerplay chances but no one could convert. Both teams had 10 shots each with Downey and Rosenzweig stopping all of them.
In the third period, Bronson Ride scored shorthanded to tie the game for the Spitfires. Just two minutes later Niagara scored to retake the lead and 20 seconds after that scored to take a 5-3 lead. Halfway through the period Miedema scored his first from rookies Greentree and Cristoforo to make it a 5-4 game. The Spitfires pulled the netminder with little time remaining and Niagara scored to take a 6-4 lead and ultimately the win.
The Spitfires are back in action on September 9th vs Flint at the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
