Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires were resilient last night in a much-needed win over the Otters by a score of 5-4. Tonight, they were in for a tough test as they travelled to London for a matchup with the red-hot Knights. They were coming off a big win over Flint 9-2 on Wednesday. It was the second game in as many nights for the Spitfires as they have three 3 in 3's in the final seven weeks of the season.

In the first period, it was the Spitfires dominating the shot clock as they outshot the Knights 9-2 in the first ten minutes. The Spitfires were sent to an early powerplay as Barkey hit Cristoforo from behind. On the ensuing powerplay, the Spitfires would cash in. A rush for London shorthanded went the other way and the Spitfires had a 3 on 1 as Woodall fed Smith who fed Morneau who put it in the back of the net for his 7th. The Knights would respond five minutes later with a powerplay goal of their own to tie the game at one. In the final seconds of the period, the Spitfires would give up a 2 on 1 and Halttunen made no mistake to put the Knights up 2-1. The Spitfires outshot the Knights 12-7 through the period.

In the second period, the Knights would control the first minute and O'Reilly made it 3-1 for London however it was called no goal after a review for offside. A few minutes later, the Knights would actually make it 3-1 with a powerplay tally from Bonk. That would be the lone goal of the period as the Knights would have a 3-1 lead heading into the third. The Spitfires had a shot lead of 25-15 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, it took all of 14 seconds for the Knights to extend their lead to 4-1 as Cowan would score. Just seven and a half minutes later, the Knights would extend their lead to 5-1 as Leonard would score his 3rd of the year. That would do it as the Knights would take this one.

The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow Saturday February 10th versus the Owen Sound Attack. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
