Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires suffered their first loss to the Firebirds all season after a highly contested affair in Flint.
In the first period both teams had chances but no one could convert. Each team had two powerplays but both penalty kills were perfect. The Spitfires led in shots 15-9 in a scoreless period.
In the second period, Abraham got the Spitfires on the board just 1:31 into the period. Just over four minutes later, Flint tied the game at 1. Just less than four minutes later, the Spitfires restored the lead. Perrott passed to Ribau who's shot deflected off Cuylle's stick into the net for his 28th on the season. Late in the period, Flint was awarded a powerplay and capitalized on it to tie the game at 2. The Spitfires leas in shots 36-22 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Firebirds were awarded with quite a few powerplays while the Spitfires were given none when there could have been a few. Both teams couldn't find the back of the net and we were off to OT.
In the OT frame, both teams traded chances with Flint having 2 breakaways and Onuska stood tall. The Spitfires Cuylle hit the post but the puck stayed out. OT solved nothing and we were off to a shootout.
In the shootout, D'Amico was the 2nd shooter for the Spitfires and scored to put the pressure on the Firebirds. Panwar the Firebirds third shooter had to score and he did to extend the shootout. The shootout went to eight rounds before the Firebirds scored to win 3-2 in the shootout and first against the Spitfires all season.
The Spitfires are back in action on Family Day Monday for an afternoon game versus the Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05pm.
