Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires were looking to get back in the win column following a loss on Thursday from the London Knights. Saturday saw the Spitfires cross the border into Michigan for a matchup with the Memorial Cup Hosts, Saginaw Spirit.

In the first period, the Spirit would dominate the puck possession game. They hemmed the Spitfires in numerous times and were rewarded with the games first goal. Loukus would score his third of the season just over six minutes into the contest. Later in the frame, the Spirit would score but it was reviewed and determined the play was offside and disallowed. After the first period the Spirit led 1-0 on the scoreboard and 6-5 in shots.

In the second period, the Spirit had a 5 on 3 powerplay and the Spitfires took two minors within 30 seconds. On the ensuing powerplay, the Spirit would score to make it 2-0. It was reviewed for goalie interference as contact was made in the crease and after a lengthy review it was determined a good goal. Just 19 seconds later, the Spitfires would score shorthanded to get the goal back after it should have been no goal. Maillet fed Peer on a 2 on 1 and Peer scored his 8th on the season. Just over three minutes later, the Spirit would score to make it 3-1.

In the third period, the Spitfires would have a powerplay opportunity but could not convert. They had a late PK to kill off before trying to go on the offensive in the last five minutes. They had their chances but Spirit netminder Oke stood up to the task. The Spitfires would pull the goalie late but could not find the back of the net and ultimately lost 3-1.

The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow Sunday November 12th vs the Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05pm. Don't forget to bring your cans for cans for a cause and your skates for Skate with the Spits after the game.
