Windsor Spitfires News Release
The Spitfires were looking to continue the momentum of last weekend into tonight's game versus Barrie. The Spitfires won two games out of three on their Eastern road swing against two top teams in Peterborough and Ottawa. However, the Colts netminder Hillebrandt had other plans as he was stellar and stole the win for the Colts.
In the first period, the Spitfires dominated the play, puck possession and shots. However, the Colts would score the games first goal as the Spitfires failed to clear the puck and it bounced towards the goal and Tai York would score his 4th of the season. The Spitfires would lead 13-8 in shots after 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Colts would double their lead as the Kraken 1st rounder Sale would score just under three minutes in. Just over a minute later, the Spitfires would respond. Greentree picked up the puck at the red line and skated in on his own before splitting the defence and roofing the puck on the backhand. After 40 minutes, the Spitfires trailed 2-1 on the scoreboard but had a 21-14 shot lead.
In the third period, the Spitfires would fire on all cylinders and try to get the games next goal. However, the Barrie goalie Hillebrandt stood tall and stopped all shots he faced. The Colts would add two empty net goals and take this one 4-1. The shots ended in favour of the Spitfires 32-24.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow (Friday) in Guelph to take on the Storm. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
