WINDSOR, ON. - The Spitfires were on the wrong side of the score board for the home opener but that was just the first game of a long season. Many players returning from NHL camps this week meant the Spitfires had less time to practice all of coach Savard's new tactics.

Tonight's home opener drew in a crowd over 2900 as the WFCU Centre was limited to 50% capacity however that did not stop fans from cheering on their favourite team.

The first period saw Sarnia go up 2-0 within the first 6 minutes of play. After twenty minutes the Spitfires were up 25-8 in shots but couldn't bury one past San Jose draft pick Gaudreau.

In the 2nd period the Spitfires struck back twice, both on the powerplay and both courtesy of Detroit Red Wings pick Pasquale Zito. However, it only took 47 seconds for Sarnia to take back the lead and go up 3-2 heading into the third.

In the third period, Sarnia scored 3 unanswered to take a 6-2 lead, with another goal being disallowed as the play was offside. Late in the third the Spitfires rookie Miedema captured his first OHL regular season goal on a sweet feed from McDonald.

Sarnia took game one but there are 9 more games against the Sting this season and the 2nd starts tomorrow on Friday the 8th of October in Sarnia. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
