Rangers Outlast Storm in Season Opener

The first game of the 2021-2022 season saw the Rangers get an overtime victory over the Guelph Storm.
Just under five minutes into the game, Mike Petizian scored the first goal of the Rangers season on the powerplay. Later on, Francesco Pinelli added to the lead. They also got great goaltending from Paval Cajan. A successful 1st period saw the Rangers leading 2-0.
Reid Valade started things off just under a minute into the 2nd period, extending their lead to 3-0. Guelph immediately responded back with three goals in a row. Two from Matthew Poitras and one from Ben McFarlane.
Midway through the second, Joesph Serpa scored to take make the lead 4-3 for the Rangers. That did not last long as Guelph tied the game at 4.
During the 3rd period, Roman Schmidt scored on the powerplay to retake the lead. Guelph responded later in the period to make it a 5-5 hockey game.
Overtime saw Francesco Pinelli score the game-winner and his second of the game, after a lengthy review. This made the final 6-5 for the Rangers.
We look to a rematch tomorrow night in Guelph. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
Our next home game will be on Oct 15 at 7:30 p.m. against the Sarnia Sting.
