
Spitfires Double up Kingston 8-4

The Spitfires came into Kingston needing to set a tone and they did just that. A four goal first period accelerated a big 8-4 win to end the losing streak.
In the first period, the Spitfires would open the scoring just over 5 minutes in. Christopoulos would score his 39th of the season on a rebound. With the goal Christopoulos recorded his 100th career OHL point. The lead would only last 12 seconds as the Frontenacs would respond quickly to tie the game at 1. Just over 11 minutes into the game, the Spitfires would restore the lead with a point shot from Jodoin which found the back of the net for his 3rd of the year. Maggio and DeAngelis with the assists on the goal. Just over a minute later, the Spitfires would extend the lead with a powerplay goal from the former Frontenac Shane Wright with a deflection in front of the net. With just 7 seconds left in the period, Captain Maggio would extend the Spitfire lead to 4-1 with his 45th of the season. The Spitfires led 16-7 in shots after the period.
In the second period, the Spitfires were headed to a powerplay just before the halfway point of the period. Off the ensuing faceoff, the Spitfires would only need 7 seconds to put it into the back of the net. The Spitfires won the faceoff and got the puck back to Wright who walked through two Frontenacs before passing it to Greentree in front who scored his 25th of the season. Just five and a half minutes later, the Spitfires would extend the lead to 6-1 with a tally from Castle which was his 16th of the season. The Spitfires would have a 26-12 shot advantage after 2 frames.
In the third period, the Spitfires would extend their lead to 7-1 with a powerplay goal from Harrison. The Frontenacs would add two quick goals just 9 seconds apart to make it a 7-3 game. Just over a minute later, the Spitfires Captain Maggio would respond with his 2nd on the night to make it an 8-3 game. The Frontenacs would add another to make it 8-4. That would do it as the Spitfires tried to feed Alec Stewart for his first OHL goal in the final minutes but no to avail.
The Spitfires would double up the Fronts by a score of 8-4 and end the losing streak.
The Spitfires are back in action vs the London Knights on Thursday at the WFCU Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
