Brantford Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Hamilton Bulldogs were back in action Sunday afternoon for the second game of Girls in Hockey Weekend, hosting the Sudbury Wolves for the second & final time this season.

Hamilton opened the game on the front foot at 3:12 of the first period, with a delayed call against the Wolves, Patrick Thomas worked the puck forward to Sahil Panwar who hit Nick Lardis for a breakaway going back bar and down over Kevyn Brassard for his 31st of the season giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Kocha Delic believed he had tied the game just seconds later but upon review Tristan Malboeuf made an incredible sprawling stop across his crease to keep the Dogs ahead. Nick Lardis tried to double up on the scoresheet from a Patrick Thomas drop pass, but the sniper's shot was gloved down by Brassard. The Wolves found their counter punch at 14:18 as Kocha Delic made a nifty move around a Bulldogs defender and fed the puck across to a wide-open Quentin Musty who snapped it past Malboeuf tying the game, 1-1. Only 40- seconds after Musty's goal, Nick Yearwood tipped a point shot from Jakub Chromiak giving the Wolves their first lead of the game 2-1. Despite the pair against, Tristan Malboeuf turned aside 10 shots in the opening frame, keeping his team in the game.

Kocha Delic broke through 5:02 in the middle frame as the talented forward was sent on a breakaway just as a Quentin Musty penalty expired firing a quick wrist shot on goal that Malboeuf was able to get a piece with his glove as and it trickled over the goal line making it 3-1 for Sudbury. The Bulldogs penalty kill continued its' recent uptick, after fighting off a 5-minute major yesterday, the Dogs killed off a lengthy 5-on-3 in the middle frame to keep the game within reach. Artem Grushnikov came up big shorthanded continuing to blocking shots in key moments. Tristan Malboeuf kept his team in the game at the 6:54 mark, denying Chase Coughlan on a breakaway attempt and gloving down Nick Yearwood's rebound attempt making his most spectacular stops of the game. With their goaltender holding the fort, the Bulldogs had an opportunity to get back into the game in the final frame.

Florian Xhekaj opened the final frame laying a big hit on Matthew Mania to try and inject some excitement into his team. The Bulldogs built off the uptick in physicality, heading to the power- play Lucas Moore and Cole Brown were able to get quality shots on goal but Brassard was able to snare both. Continuing a push, Andre Anania took a cross checking penalty giving Hamilton 49 seconds of 5-on-3 time, but the Wolves defense led by Nolan Collins & Dylan Robinson continued to block shots and keep the Bulldogs from many dangerous opportunities. Hamilton called Tristan Malboeuf to the bench with 2:30 remaining for the extra attacker, still trailing by a pair. Lardis was just about able to squeak one through Brassard short side, only to have the Wolves netminder get his pad back just in time. Despite a late flurry of chances, it just wouldn't be enough with Kevyn Brassard stopping 14 of 15 in the game to give the Wolves a 3-1 win in Hamilton.

The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday night as they travel stateside to visit the Erie Otters.

The puck drops at 6:30pm at the Erie Insurance Arena. Make sure you tune in and listen live on the Bulldogs Audio Network.
