Spitfires Defeat Rangers 7-5 in Kitchener

With tonight's 7-5 win over the Rangers in Kitchener, Windsor won their first game of the series and now trails the Rangers three games to one in the Rogers Western Conference Championships. The Spitfires are now 5-0 with tonight's win in elimination games over the past two seasons, as Windsor won four consecutive elimination games at last year's MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship.

Windsor outshot Kitchener 42-29 in the game and 202-134 to this point in the series. However, Kitchener has outscored the Spitfires 22-18 in the four contests.

Defenceman Ryan Ellis registered four assists in the game and was named the First Star of the game. Ellis is ranked first amongst all OHL defencemen, and leads the Spitfires in scoring with 24 points in 12 playoff games. His four point night is also the seventh time that Ellis has enjoyed a multi-point night in the playoffs. He also leads all defencemen and is ranked first in the league with 22 assists. Ellis has recorded points in each of the Spitfires 12 playoff games and is tied for second in the OHL for points in consecutive playoff games.

Forward Adam Henrique scored two goals in the game and was named the Third Star for the second consecutive contest. He has scored at least one goal in six of his past seven playoff games. Henrique is tied for first on the Spitfires and second in the OHL in goals scored with 11. He is also ranked third on the team with 15 points in 12 playoff games.

Forward Taylor Hall extended his point streak to 12 consecutive games tonight as he scored the game winning goal with less than two minutes left in the game and also registering one assist. He is tied with teammate Ryan Ellis for the second longest point streak in the league. His two point night is the ninth time that he has registered a multi-point game in the post-season.

He is also tied for second in the OHL with 11 goals and is second on the Spitfires in points and fifth in the OHL with 23 points in the playoffs. Hall is also tied for fourth in the OHL with a +11 plus-minus rating in the playoffs and he is tied for sixth in the league with 12 assists.

Forward Zack Kassian scored two goals and has registered one point in each of his past seven games. Kassian has six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 12 post-season games. His 14 points have him ranked fourth on the Spitfires in playoff scoring.

Goaltender Philipp Grubauer won his first game of the series and made 24 saves on 29 shots faced. He is ranked second in the OHL with nine wins in 12 playoff games.

Forwards Scott Timmins and Greg Nemisz each scored one goal, with Nemisz recording three points and Timmins recording two in the contest.

Defenceman Mark Cundari recorded two assists and was a +4 in the contest. Cundari is ranked first in the OHL with a +14 rating and he is also tied for sixth amongst OHL defencemen with 12 points in 12 games.

Windsor scored three power play goals on six opportunities in the game. This is the first time that Windsor has scored multiple power play goals in one game during the series.

Kitchener scored two goals on six power play opportunities. The Rangers have outscored the Spitfires on special teams seven goals to four after four games.

With tonight's win, the Windsor Spitfires will be selling tickets for game five of the series to the general public and to Spitfire season ticket holders starting tomorrow (Wednesday, April 21st) at 10am. Game five of the series will be hosted at the WFCU Centre on Thursday, April 22nd at 7:05 pm.

Season ticket holders will have to purchase their tickets by no later than 6 pm tomorrow (Wednesday, April 21st) to guarantee their seats. Any season ticket holder seats not purchased by 6 pm tomorrow will be released to the public for sale on game day (Thursday, April 22nd) starting at 10am.
