
Spitfires Beat Peterborough Convincingly 8-2

WINDSOR, ON - The Spitfires were looking to put the right foot forward as the losing streak slipped to four in a row. The Peterborough Petes were in town for the only time this season. They were coming off a big win in London last night which ended 3-2 in a shootout. On Saturday night, the Spitfires took advantage of the tired Petes as they had 3 games in 3 nights and the Spitfires skated to a 8-2 win.
In the first period, the Spitfires took the fight to the Petes as they controlled the play. They outshot the Petes 11-6 through the first period. The games first goal came exactly 7 minutes in as Davis scored his 14th of the season from Eichler and Greentree. Ten minutes later, the Spitfires would double their lead as Greenwell would find the back of the net for his 2nd of the season. Greentree and Cristoforo drew assists on the goal. After 20 minutes, the Spitfires had a 2-0 lead.
In the second period, the Petes would strike just under three minutes in to make it a 2-1 game. Just a minute later, the Spitfires would strike back to make it a 3-1 score. Six minutes later, the Spitfires would score off the back of Ethan Martin in front of the net and the Spitfires were up 4-1. Seven minutes later, the Spitfires would score on the powerplay as Greentree found the back of the net for his second on the night. Late in the frame, the Petes would respond with a powerplay goal of their own and make it a 5-2 game. The shots were tied at 20 a piece after forty minutes.
In the third period, the Spitfires would add another three goals from Morneau (SHG), Smith and Greentree capped off the hat-trick and a big 8-2 win.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow, Sunday the 28th of January as they travel to Saginaw. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00pm.
