New Jersey Jackals News Release

The New Jersey Jackals lost its second straight game to the North Shore Spirit on a three-run homer off the bat of Andrew Wishy in the fourth inning. It was Wishys second blast of the year, but the devastating chip-shot barely made it over the short right field fence.

Spirit starting pitcher Chris Farley (2-2) pitched a quick and precise two-hit complete game shutout as he flustered the Jackal batters.

On the other side, Joe Orloski (3-3) pitched terrific for the Jackals until encountering trouble in the fourth. He began the inning with a walk to Vic Davilla, then a scorching double to left by Jeff Brooks.

Oroloski had pitched mostly strikes in three, swift scoreless innings until the Wishy at-bat. Orloski went 8 1/3 innings, allowed three runs on eight hits and walked just a batter with two strikeouts.

Wishy proved that just one shot could predict the outcome of a game as his homer provided the only runs in the game. In the seventh inning, John Lindsey nailed a pitch deep to left. It appeared to be a timely extra-base hit, maybe a home run.

However, just moments later Garrett Weir raised his glove with the ball in hand for a dramatic, heartbreaking third-out for the Jackals. Had the ball dropped for a hit, Bill Peavey would have scored from first to cut the deficit to 3-1; and Lindsey would have advanced on a triple.

Instead, the Jackals (15-16) will look to split the series tomorrow with a victory over the visiting Spirit.
