Lynn, MA – The North Shore Spirit are back in first place. Sunday afternoon, the Spirit celebrated the July 4th holiday by knocking off the Brockton Rox 5-4 at the New Fraser Field.

John Kelly (5-2) picked up the win despite having his scoreless inning streak snapped at 33 1/3. Kelly allowed two runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Spirit closer Ryan Bicondoa pitched the ninth for his eighth save.

For the third straight game, the Spirit jumped out to an early lead. Yuri Sanchez led off the third with a basehit and scored two batters later on a wild pitch by Brockton starter Derek Anderson. Vic Davilla made the score 2-0 North Shore with an opposite field homer, his 10th of the season. The Spirit would tack on another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Taylor.

Brockton would score two in the sixth and one in the eighth to cut North Shore's lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the eighth, Marcos Agramonte's two-out double scored Joe Hastings with what proved to be the game-winning run. Rox second baseman Mike Torres hit a solo shot in the ninth, but Bicondoa retired Brockton cleanup hitter Jake Daubert on a grounder to first to end the game and give the Spirit sole possession of first place in the North Division.
