North Shore Spirit News Release
Defensive miscues told the story at a rain-soaked Fraser Field Friday night. The Spirit took advantage of timely hitting and shaky Pride fielding to earn an 8-1 victory, evening the four-game series at a game apiece.
The game was delayed an hour due to the weather, but that didn't slow down the Spirit offense.
North Shore got on the board early, taking advantage of a very sloppy second inning from the Pride. After Brooks walked to get things started, Alex Trezza reached on an error by the Nashua second baseman. Luis Sabino followed with a sacrifice bunt, which was bobbled Pride starter Terrell Wade. Wade's throw sailed into right field, and the right fielder compounded the error by overthrowing home plate. All three Spirit baserunners came around to score on the play, and the Spirit left the second inning with a 3-0 lead.
Spirit starter Chris Farley kept the Pride off the scoreboard until the fourth. Tom Creighton led off the inning with a single and scored on Andy Dillard's RBI double. The Pride followed with a single and a walk to load the bases, but Farley escaped from the jam without further damage. The Spirit responded in a big way however, and broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning. Sabino led off with a singe, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI single from Garrett Weir. Weir scored the second run on double from B.J. Weed and then Vic Davilla supplied the innings big power with a home run to right field. Andrew Wishy singled and scored the innings final run on an RBI double from Jeff Brooks.
Farley pitched the entire six inning affair to earn the win for the Spirit, while Pride starter Terrell Wade suffered the loss.
After six full innings of play, the game was finally called due to the weather. The series resumes tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. The Spirit will send Jarrad Lavergne to the mound, while Jon Connolly gets the start for the Pride.
