Saginaw Spirit News Release

Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (20-39-1-0) return to The Dow Event Center Tuesday night to face the Soo Greyhounds (33-20-6-1) after an impressive road showing last week led to back-to-back wins over division rivals Sarnia and Flint. Puck drop tonight is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Head-to-Head

This marks the seventh of eight meetings this season between the Spirit and the Greyhounds. The Soo has won four of the first six matchups, including a 3-0 win over Saginaw at The Dow on Mar. 19, earning Tucker Tynan his first OHL shutout. This will mark the 150th regular season game all-time between the two teams. Saginaw is 68-66-11-4 against their rivals to the north since their inception in the OHL back in 2002.

Last Time Out

Saginaw: In one of their most complete efforts this season, the Spirit went into The Dort Financial Center to face their familiar West Division foe, Flint Firebirds on Saturday and never trailed, stealing a 5-4 victory. Six Saginaw players finished with multi-point efforts, including defenseman Mitchell Smith, who backed up a five-point night Friday in Sarnia, with a goal and assist Saturday. Rookie Luke McNamara scored the game-winning goal with just under five minutes remaining. Andrew Oke picked up the victory in net on his 18th birthday, making 27 saves. The victory gave Saginaw back-to-back wins for the first time since Dec. 29 (4-3 SO W at Flint) and Dec. 30 (2-1 W vs. Soo).

Soo: The Greyhounds prospects of winning the West Division took a major hit this past weekend when the division-leading Windsor Spitfires beat them on home ice in back-to-back games this past weekend. It was the first time the Soo has lost two games in a row in regulation time since early January, also back-to-back home games against the Spitfires. Sunday afternoon, the Hounds fell 5-4 to the Spits. Windsor jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, and had the Hounds chasing the game the rest of the way. Still. Jack Thompson scored early in the third period to make it a 4-3 game, but a breakaway goal from Wyatt Johnston of Windsor mid-way through the third made it 5-3. The Soo would score shorthanded with just over four minutes to go, but that's as close as they could get.
