Washington Spirit News Release
Houston, TX - The Washington Spirit drew the Houston Dash in their 14th match of the 2021 NWSL regular season this evening, 2-2.
The game got off to a good start for the Spirit as they dominated early. In the 8th minute, Dorian Bailey served an excellent corner kick that was cleared to the top of the box where Paige Nielsen hammered home a shot past the Dash goalkeeper.
Just thirteen minutes later, the visitors almost doubled the lead when after a good buildup, Saori Takarada whipped in a cross that found Tara McKeown around the six yard box but her shot rang off the crossbar and Ashley Sanchez was unable to finish the rebound.
The Dash controlled the game for a five minute stretch around the 30th minute, but the Spirit were able to gain possession of the game once again going into halftime. At the half, the Spirit had 58.5% of possession and had an 85.4% passing accuracy.
To start the second half, the Dash had much of the possession and the early chances. In the 53', the Dash corner kick was cleared to McKeown around midfield and found Tori Huster streaking up the center of the pitch. Huster did the work from there, taking it all the way into the box for the goal to double the Spirit's lead.
Nine minutes later, the Dash would get one back. On their second corner of the second half, the Dash were able to find Veronica Latakia who directed it home to cut the Spirit's lead in half. In the 83rd minute, the Dash would find the back of the net once again, this time by newcomer Michaela Abam.
For their next league fixture, the Spirit will return to Audi Field to host the Orlando Pride on Sunday, August 22 at 5:00 pm ET and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
