Spirit Look for Weekend Split in Sunday Matinee with Otters

Erie, PA - After earning a point Saturday night in a 4-3 overtime loss, the Spirit look for a split of a two-game weekend series with the Erie Otters at the Erie Insurance Arena on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Rookie goaltender Andrew Oke made 32 saves in his OHL debut and 2022 NHL Draft Eligibles Matyas Sapovaliv and Pavel Mintyukov both had goals for Saginaw. Overager Nick Wong also scored his first goal as a member of the Spirit in the defeat.

After the Spirit took the lead two separate times in the third period, it was the Otters who stormed back to answer both times. With the score tied at 3-3, Brendan Sellan was awarded a penalty shot with just 17 seconds remaining in overtime and backhanded the puck past Spirit rookie goaltender Andrew Oke.

Today marks the fourth of 12 meetings this season between Erie and Saginaw, with Erie taking two of the first three. This is the 76th meeting of all-time between the Spirit and the Otters with Saginaw posting a 45-26-2-1 (one tie) record and a 22-14-1-1 mark on the road.

This and every game this season will also be broadcast live on the home for Spirit Hockey on the radio, 100.5 WSGW-FM and wsgw.com with the voices of Spirit Hockey, Joey Battaino and Dennis Desrosiers.

The Spirit will return to The Dow Event Center to host the Flint Firebirds on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Student & Military rush tickets are only $7 with proof of identification.
