Brantford Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ONTARIO. Finishing a run of three road games in 4 days the Hamilton Bulldogs headed to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre on Sunday looking to get back to the win column.
Undermanned with 11 forwards & 5 defence against the Steelheads, the Bulldogs would get an incredible first period effort from goaltender Marco Costantini who would turn aside 16 of 17 shots to give the Bulldogs a needed boost. Owen Beck would be the only Steelhead to dent Costantini through the opening frame at 16:17 but that goal would be quickly answered by Jan Mysak at 19:06.
Mark Duarte would push the puck forward to George Diaco who would lay the puck into the middle of the Mississauga zone for Mysak to skate onto and then beat Roman Basran over his glove on the backhand sending the game to the room tied at 1-1.
The Bulldogs would capitalize on the momentum given to them by their goaltender and shift the game firmly in their favour in the second period. At 1:13 of the middle frame, Jorian Donovan and Navrin Mutter would combine to get the puck to Lawson Sherk at the side of the Steelheads net where he would bounce the puck past Basran to give Hamilton their first lead of the game. Mutter would then extend the lead at 4:50 as Sherk would win the puck and Avery Hayes would fire it to goal with Mutter on the doorstep to bat home his 2nd of the season. Just 27 seconds later the Bulldogs would extend the lead once more with Lawson Sherk creating traffic in front of the Mississauga goal, and Avery Hayes wrapping the puck between Basran and his post for his 3rd goal of the season and second point of the night. Hayes' goal would mark the end of the net for Roman Basran making his way into the Steelheads net but the Bulldogs would hold their lead through 40 minutes, heading to the room up 4-1.
George Diaco would appear to put the Hamilton Bulldogs up 5-1 in the third after a spectacular Marco Costantini save but the goal would be taken away for offside. Mississauga would make things interesting late, at 15:16 Ethan Del Mastro would tip a Luke Visa pass past Costantini but that's as close as they would get. Thanks to 43 Marco Costantini saves the Bulldogs would win a determined effort by a 4-2 final.
The Bulldogs finish their 5-game road trip in Peterborough on Thursday, October 28th at 7:00pm.
