Saginaw, Mich. - The Saginaw Spirit (20-10-0-1) will host the Windsor Spitfires (11-20-1-0) on Thursday, December 28th at the Dow Event Center.

The Saginaw Spirit fell to the Soo Greyhounds in their first game back on Wednesday, December 29th, at the Dow Event Center. Michael Misa scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Calem Mangone but the Greyhounds soon went on a three goal scoring streak making it 3-1 going into the third period. Zayne Parekh opened the third period with a goal of his own with assists coming from Dean Loukus and Michael Misa. However, the Greyhounds scored two more goals to give the Soo a 5-2 victory over Saginaw. Andrew Oke started in net for the Spirit saving 9 of 12 shots on net but was replaced by Nolan Lalonde who stopped 11 of 12. Charlie Schenkel was the starting goaltender for the Greyhounds and saved 32 of 34 shots on goal.
The Windsor Spitfires upset the Mississauga Steelheads on Wednesday, December 29th, at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Liam Greentree, Oliver Peer and Jacob Maillet all scored goals in the first period, giving Windsor a 3-2 lead heading into the second. Peer added another goal in second along with an Owen Outwater tally to give the Spitfires a 5-3 victory over the Steelheads. Joey Costanzo started in net for Windsor, saving 23 of 26 shots on goal while Ryerson Leenders started in net for Mississauga, saving 39 of 44 shots on goal.

The Saginaw Spirit are 2-1-0-0 against the Windsor Spitfires so far this season with their last match-up being on Sunday, November 12th at WFCU Centre. Hunter Haight, Dean Loukus, and Ethan Hay (2) each found the back of the net. Michael Misa netted the game winning goal in the final ten seconds of the game, giving Saginaw a 6-5 victory over Windsor. Nolan Lalonde started in goal for Saginaw and saved 24 of 29 shots on goal while Joey Costanzo started in net for Windsor, saving 26 of 31 shots on goal.
Players to Watch:
Zayne Parekh, who was recently selected to play in the 2024 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospect game, leads the Spirit in points (43) and assists (30). Parekh is also second among OHL defensemen in points, assists, and goals (13). Michael Misa leads Saginaw in goals scored (15) followed by Hunter Haight (14). Matyas Sapovaliv (Team Czechia) and Rodwin Dionico (Team Switzerland) are still at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden. Andrew Oke continues to lead the Spirit in all major goaltending categories with a 2.91 goals against average (GAA), a .897 save percentage (SV%), and 13 wins.
Liam Greentree and Oliver Peer lead the Spitfires in points with 42. Peer leads Windsor in goals (21) placing him 8th in the OHL. Greentree also leads in assists (22). Joey Costanzo leads all Windsor goaltender sporting a 4.83 goals against average (GAA), a .848 save percentage (SV%), and 6 wins. In his return to Saginaw, former Spirit defenseman Roberto Mancini will skate in his 200th OHL game.
