Erie Otters News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie Panthers (pres. by United Way of Erie County) return for one-night-only! With the Otters back for their first home game in two weeks, the team would look to bounce back after a pair of losses. Having the last-place Niagara IceDogs in town - whom Erie has downed twice this season - the Otters would look to channel the pro hockey heroes of yore.
A slow-starting opening frame would see shots come at a premium, as Erie would be held to just few shots to start the game. As the game would mature, so would Erie's confidence offensively - leading to the game's opening goal from Brett Bressette (8) off a silky pass from Owain Johnston. The night's leading-scorer Malcolm Spence (7) would follow up this act with a short-handed beauty of his own to put Erie up 2-0 late in the frame. With two seconds remaining on the power play, Ethan Czata (2) would make it a 2-1 game. Erie would hold a 13-9 shot advantage after 20, and lead 2-1.
Period two would start off lackadaisical, but end up being the highest shot-producing period to the game with 34 total shots fired. Wesley Royston (1) would have the best of the game with 14:44 gone by in the period, earning the 2023 OHL Priority Selection second round pick his first career goal. Before the period would close, the pesky IceDogs would continue to stick around with Andrew Wycisk (4) netting a goal in the final two minutes. Erie would lead 3-2 after 40.
The third period would see the Otters offense take the game over, as Ondrej Molnar (11) would strike to put Erie back up by a pair. As the period would progress, and time starting to run out for the IceDogs comeback attempts, Kevin He (17) would score an impressive goal from an incredibly wide angle to make it a one-game game once again. Just minutes later, the second of the night for Brett Bressette (9) would give Erie the insurance it was craving, and with the net-empty and shorthanded, Malcolm Spence (8) would cap off a career-high four point night with two goals and two assists. Erie would take the win 6-3, outshoot Niagara 46-36, and go for 5/6 on the penalty kill.
The week, month, and year all come to a close on Sunday afternoon as the Erie Otters celebrate New Year's Rockin' Eve (pres. by Printing Concepts). This game will feature the first-ever matchup between Erie and the Brantford Bulldogs, and returns a favorite holiday game to Erie fans. The first 1500 fans in attendance will receive an Erie Otters 2024 Player Calendar (pres. by Printing Concepts).
