Lynn, MAâ The North Shore Spirit had their five game winning streak snapped Thursday night. The New Jersey Jackals scored early and often en route to a 14-9 victory at the New Fraser Field.
The Jackals got out of the gates quickly, scoring nine runs in the first two innings off of Spirit starter Aaron Dean. Wilton Veras hit a two-run homerun in the first and Jay LeFlair added a three-run shot in the second.
North Shore tried to climb back into the game in the third inning. Lucas Taylor leadoff with a single and advanced to third on a Nelson Teilon basehit. Vic Davilla got the Spirit on the board with an RBI single to center. North Shore would add another run later in the inning on a sac fly by Joe Hastings.
New Jersey would add three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh to take a commanding 14-2 lead. Joe Hastings gave the home fans something to cheer about in the bottom of the seventh when he launched a grand slam deep over the right field fence.
Yuri Sanchez drove in a pair in the ninth to cut the defecit to 14-9, but Mike Perkins retired Lucas Taylor on a grounder to the mound to end the game.
Jackson Crowther (5-7) picked up the win for the Jackals. Crowther worked six innings and allowed only two earned runs. John Anderson was 2-5 with 3 runs scored.
John Kelly (4-3) takes the mound for the Spirit on Friday and will face RHP Aaron Myers (5-1) from the Aces. Wednesday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.
