North Shore's Sugarman sold to Cincinnati

Durham, N.C. -- North Shore's Jeremy Sugarman was sold to the Cincinnati Reds today, becoming the sixth Northeast League player and first member of the Spirit to be sold during the season. He is also the 27th NEL alum to appear on an affiliated team's roster this season.

Sugarman, who was named the Rawlings Player of the Month for June, was 10-0 with a 2.88 earned run average in 11 starts. In 75 innings, he has allowed 27 runs, 24 earned, and struck out 44, while walking 17 for North Shore, which captured the first half North Division title. Sugarman, who was selected to the 2004 All-Star team, led the league in wins and ranked fifth in ERA.

Now in his second year with North Shore, Sugarman is a combined 17-1 with a 2.60 ERA in 29 appearances, 21 of which were starts. In addition, he had five saves and had allowed 47 earned runs in 162 2/3 innings.

A native of Malibu, Calif., Sugarman pitched at UC Santa Barbara from 1998-2002, redshirting during his freshman year.
