Saginaw Spirit News Release

On Wednesday night, the Saginaw Spirit took home ice against the Plymouth Whalers at The Dow Event Center.

The excitement began immediately in the first period when Spirit winger Gregg Sutch scored an unassisted goal, his second of the season. Seconds later, Assistant Captain Eric Locke took the score to 2-0 assisted by Garret Ross and Jimmy Lodge. To continue the Spirit scoring, Justin Kea recorded his 14th goal of the season assisted by Nick Moutrey and Jeremiah Addison. Answering for the Whalers, assisted by Tom Wilson and Matt Mistele, Colorado Avalanche prospect Mitchell Heard sent the puck just over Spirit goalie Jake Paterson's glove to make the score 3-1. Plymouth Assistant Captain Connor Carrick added a special team's goal on the power play when he sent a bouncing puck in the net assisted by Garrett Meurs. To close out this eventful period, Justin Kea found himself in perfect position to bury his second goal of the game, assists going to Nick Moutrey and Jeremiah Addison. The first period ended with a score of 4-2, Spirit lead.

The second period saw more back and forth goal scoring. Plymouth winger Matt Mistele converted back-to-back goals to open the period. While his first was unassisted, his second goal was assisted by Mitchell Heard and Connor Carrick. The go ahead goal for Saginaw came off the stick of Gregg Sutch, giving him his second goal of the night with assists from Eric Locke and Jason Shaw. After forty minutes of play, the Saginaw Spirit held the lead 5-4.

Unlike the first two periods, the third period saw only two goals. The first came from Washington Capitals prospect Tom Wilson with assists from Matt Mistele and Gianluca Curcuruto to tie the game at five. The final goal of the game was off a pass from Justin Kea to Nick Moutrey who scored his 13th goal of the season to give the Spirit the winning goal. The final score in Saginaw was 6-5, Spirit victory.
