(Erie, PA) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Erie Otters 5-2 Saturday night in Erie. The win moves Saginaw's record to 40-21-03, good for 83 points and second place in the OHL West Division.
The Spirit opened scoring with two unanswered goals. Winger Tomas Zaborsky gave the Spirit a 1-0 lead with a goal at 3:10 in the first, assisted by wingers Ryan McDonough and Ryan O'Marra. Center Tom Pyatt advanced Saginaw's lead to 2-0 with a power play goal at the 13:41 mark. D-man Patrick McNeill and center Cody Bass assisted. The first period ended with the Otters responding with a goal at 18:10 in the first, from center Shayne Taylor.
Saginaw defenseman Andrew Hotham tallied a goal against his former teammates at 19:06 in the second period, moving the score to 3-1. McNeill and Bass notched the assists. Otters winger Kelly Geoffrey would reduce the Spirit lead to 3-2 with a goal at the 7:17 mark of the third period. Spirit winger Patrick Asselin answered for the Spirit with a goal at 12:13 in the third advancing Saginaw's lead to 4-2. Zaborsky and center Tyler Haskins assisted. O'Marra would tally a empty net goal at the 19:00 mark, moving the score to 5-2.
Spirit netminder Ryan Daniels was in net for Saginaw.
