
Otters overcome by Spirit

Tomas Zaborsky scored once and added an assist to lead the Saginaw Spirit to a 5-2 win over the Erie Otters in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 3,900 at the Tullio Arena.
Tom Pyatt, Patrick Asselin, Ryan O'Marra and Andrew Hotham also scored for the Spirit while Patrick McNeill collected two assists. Saginaw improved to 40-21-0-3 with the win.
Kelly Geoffrey netted a goal and an assist for the Otters while Shayne Taylor registered the other goal. Erie dropped to 15-47-1-2.
The Spirit led 2-1 after one and 3-1 heading into the third. Geoffrey scored seven minutes into the third to make it a one-goal game before Asselin answered five minutes later to restore Saginaw's two-goal cushion.
The Otters out shot the Spirit 49-43 in the game as Kevin Beech started and took the loss. Ryan Daniels turned aside 45 in a winning effort. The three stars of the game were 1. McNeill; 2. Geoffrey and 3. Daniels.
The Otters return to action in their final weekend of the season starting with road games Thursday (7:35 p.m.) and Friday (7:30 p.m.) in Sarnia and London respectively. Both games can be heard live on True Oldies 1330 and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes before the opening face-off.
The Otters close out the regular season Saturday (March 17th) night when the London Knights visit the Tullio Arena for Fan Appreciation Night at 7:30 p.m. More than $20,000 in cash will be available to be won during the game. Tickets for the game are available at all Erie-area TicketMaster locations as well as the Erie Civic Center Box Office.
