Spirit Battle Otters To 4-1 Loss

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Erie Otters 4-1 Tuesday night at TheDow Event Center. Barry Sanderson tallied the Spirit's only goal with an assist from Jordan Skellett. The loss puts Saginaw's record at 17-15-3-0 for the season.

Erie center Zack Torquato scored the first goal of the game at 6:41 in the first period, with assists credited to center Mike Cazzola and defenseman Derek Holden. The period was finished with a powerplay goal, knocked in by center Greg McKegg at the 19:00 mark. Center Mike Cazzola and netminder Jaroslav Janus (NHL TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING) assisted on the play, ending the period with the Otters ahead, 2-0.

The Spirit got on the board with the only goal of the second period when winger Barry Sanderson found the net at 16:29 into the period. He was assisted on the goal by winger Jordan Skellett. The goal ended the period with a 2-1 score. McKegg added another goal for the Otters 8:42 into the third period, assisted by Cazzola and Torquato. The period closed with an empty net goal from Torquato at 19:30. Assists were credited to center Mike Cazzola and defenseman Mitch Gaulton. The game ended with a final score of 4-1.

Spirit goaltender Anthony Peters posted 27 saves on 30 shots, while Otters netminder Jaroslav Janus finished the game with 36 saves on 37 attempts.
