North Shore Spirit News Release
Lynn, MA: The North Shore Spirit snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday afternoon at New Fraser Field in Lynn. North Shore pounded out 14 hits on their way to a 10-0 win over Quebec. The offense started early, in the first inning Mike Tejada powered a solo home run to right field to open the flood gates.
The 1-0 lead was all starting pitcher John Kelly would need. Kelly hurled a gem, a two hit, 10 strikeout, masterpiece in picking up his league-leading eighth win of the year. Kelly sat down the first nine Quebec batters he faced, including striking out the side in the third. Quebec finally had a batter reach base in the fourth when Spirit catcher Frank Charles was charged with an error for catcher's interference on Quebec's Beniot Emond attempted swing. Kelly promptly retired the next three hitters in a row.
Quebec first baseman Jeremy Todd broke up Kelly's no-hit bid in the fifth connecting on a single to right field. The Capitales collected their second hit in the ninth when Osmani Garcia beat out an infield ground ball.
The Spirit big inning was the sixth inning; nine batters faced Quebec reliever Eric Charron with five runs scoring. Carlos Sepulveda ignited the rally with a lead-off double. Four consecutive hits later, the Spirit led 7-0. Frank Charles (3-4, 2 RBI), Fran Riordan and Ed Muth (1 RBI) followed with hits, Yuri Sanchez singled and with the bases loaded Marcos Argramonte (3 RBI) cleared the bases with a double to the corner in left field for the final score 10-0.
Spirit newcomer rightfielder Rob Fisher (2 RBI) sailed a ball over the left field fence for a two run homer in the second inning.
The Spirit win is their first of the second half in the Northeast League (1-2), Quebec drops to (2-1).
