North Shore Spirit News Release
Lynn, MAâ The North Shore Spirit jumped out to an early lead in Game 2, courtesy of a Nelson Teilon two-run homerun in the first on their way to a 5-2 victory. The win earned the Spirit a split of the doubleheader against the visiting Elmira Pioneers at the New Fraser Field in Lynn.
In Game 1, the Pioneers scored four runs in their last at-bat to win 8-6 over the Spirit. The decisive rally for the Pioneers came when they strung together five hits, scoring four runs against Spirit closer Ryan Bicondoa. The key blow was a two-out, two-run double by Jason Bryan. Brian Ford earned the win, while Matt Birch came on to close out the Spirit in the seventh and earn his first save.
The Spirit got on the scoreboard first with four runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fourth. Joe Hastings led the offense in game 1 with 2 RBIs. Vic Davilla had his 16-game hitting streak halted, going 0 for 4 with 1 RBI.
For the Spirit, starter Tim Hart pitched well, surrendering four runs on nine hits over six innings while striking out 1 batter and walking 1 another.
Dytarious Edwards led a balanced Pioneers attack in Game 1, going 3 for 4, scoring 1 run.
In Game 2, Teilon opened the scoring when he blasted a Robbie Morrison offering into the night sky, sending it over the left-centerfield fence and scoring Lucas Taylor ahead of him. Teilon led the Spirit by going 2 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. Tanner Wootan chipped in with two singles.
In the second, Spirit starter Justin Gordon walked the bases loaded, but then struck out Ronnie Deck and Dytarious Edwards to thwart the rally. The Pioneers scored a single unearned run in the third and then Gordon retired 14 of the next 16 batters he faced. Overall, in his first start since joining the Spirit, Gordon scattered just five hits, three by shortstop Cleatus Davidson, walking three and striking out six in his 6-plus inning effort. Ryan Bicondoa came on with two on in the seventh with no one out to earn his league-leading 17th save.
In the fourth, the Spirit scored two insurance runs on a two-out triple to the right-centerfield gap by Yuri Sanchez, chasing home both Brian Macchi and Wootan.
