Lowell Spinners News Release
LOWELL, MA - On Sunday night, it was a battle on the scoreboard. The Lowell Spinners (20-8), proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, were held hitless - but not off the scoreboard - for the first six innings.
The Spinners, however, wound up with a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Auburn Doubledays (13-16), affiliate of the Washington Nationals, thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly by Nick Northcut that drove in Wil Dalton - who tripled to begin the inning.
With the victory, the Spinners have now made it to 20 wins in 28 games, the fastest in team history.
In the top of the fourth inning, Eric Senior got the Doubledays on the board first with an RBI single that snuck through the hole on the left side of the infield - scoring Adalberto Carillo from third base, giving an early 1-0 lead for Auburn.
In the bottom of the fifth, Lowell got the run back despite still not recording a hit. After Antoni Flores lead the inning off with a walk, Flores quickly moved up two bases on two wild pitches and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jecorrah Arnold, tying the game at 1-1.
In the next half inning, Auburn took a 2-1 lead on a home run by Carrillo that just snuck over the right field fence, increasing their lead to 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Marino Campana broke up the no-hitter on an infield single. Campana later scored when Ricardo Cubillan grounded into a fielder's choice, tying the game once again.
Chris Murphy got the start on the hill for the Spinners, dealing two shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. He also walked just two. Yasel Santana came out of the bullpen in the third inning, going five strong innings. Santana allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits with two walks and as many strikeouts.
Ryan Fernandez was credited with the win. He threw two shutout innings, allowing three hits and both striking out and walking just one.
The Spinners are back in action on Monday night, when they finish off their three-game set with the Doubledays at LeLacheur Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
