Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
LOWELL, MA - Lowell pitchers gave up only one run on four hits through the first seven innings of play as the Spinners topped the Hudson Valley Renegades 5-3 Tuesday night from Edward A. LeLacheur Park.
Lowell started the scoring with a three-run second. A walk, hit-hit batsmen and single allowed from Hudson Valley hurler Easton McGee loaded the bases with one out when Grant Williams grounded out to second to bring in the first run of the game. The next hitter, centerfielder Jarren Duran, roped a double to left to score the other two runners and give the Spinners a 3-0 lead.
Hudson Valley got a run back in the third. Rightfielder Bryce Brown led-off the inning with a double to left. Three batters later, second baseman Tyler Frank laced a single to left to score Brown and put the Renegades on the board.
However, Lowell would add two more in the third to up their lead. Three consecutive singles off McGee started the inning before rightfielder Tyler Espin lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score one run. With runners at the corners and one away, shortstop Jonathan Ortega legged out a fielder's choice grounder to first to score the runner from third and give the home team a 5-1 lead.
The Renegades tried to climb back into the game with two more runs in the eighth. A double to right by centerfielder Tanner Dodson, and a walk to Frank started the inning when Spinners reliever Francisco Lopez-Soto uncorked a two-base wild-pitch, which allowed Dodson to score and send Frank to third. Catcher Chris Betts came up next and lofted a sacrifice fly left to bring in Frank and make the score 5-3.
That would be as close as Hudson Valley would get. The Renegades got runners to first and second with one out in the ninth, however Lowell closer Kris Jackson got shortstop Ford Proctor to fly to left and Dodson to ground out to third to end the game. For Jackson, it was his second save of the season.
Getting the win in relief for the Spinners was Taylor Ahearn (2-1) who allowed no hits and struck out three in three innings of work. The loss fell to McGee (3-3) who allowed five earned runs on six hits over four frames.
Lowell carved out eight hits in the game including two apiece from Duran and catcher Cole Cottam. Duran doubled and drove in two runs in the win. Hudson Valley, meanwhile, finished with six hits. Rightfielder Bryce Brown went 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Frank finished 2-2 with a double, run and RBI
The Renegades continue their three-game series against Lowell with game two tomorrow. First-pitch is scheduled for 6:35. Right-hander Michael Mercado (1-0, 3.54 ERA) will toe the bump for Hudson Valley against southpaw Yorvin Pantoja (3-0, 2.96 ERA) for the Spinners.
The Renegades return home on Monday, July 30th when they open a three-game series and homestand against the Lowell Spinners beginning at 7:05. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
