Muckdogs Game Notes
July 24, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- The Staten Island Yankees come to Dwyer Stadium for the first of a three game series. This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2016. Staten Island won the series that year 2-1. Batavia travels out for a six-game road trip to Vermont and State College.
That was last night- Batavia surrendered 13 runs over the last three innings of the game on Sunday afternoon. The 13 runs on 18 hits were both season highs given up by Batavia's pitching staff. The loss to Mahoning Valley secured the sweep for the Scrappers.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in 11 of his last 13 games. He's tallied 16 hits, and has crossed the plate six times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with two home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Reynolds Raking- Sean Reynolds has been able to find the power in his bat this season. He currently leads the league in home runs, tied for the league lead in RBI's and also leads the league in runs scored. He is also the league leader in walks with 23.
Jammed Up July- Batavia's offense has slowed up significantly in the month of July. They have opened up the first half of the month with a 9-12 record, and have scored only 4.3 runs per game. That has taken a steep decline from the 5.2 runs per game that the Muckdogs were putting up in June.
Close Calls- Batavia has played a total of 35 games this season, 21 of which have been decided by two runs or less. The Muckdogs are 10-11 in those games. Batavia has the fifth best reord in one-run games, and the worst record in two-run games at 2-6.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 18 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-14 in those contests.
Recent Roster Action- On July 19th, Batavia added LHP Alex Vesia from the GCL Marlins.
Marlins Update- The Marlins beat NL East foe Atlanta by a 9-3 score earlier today. JT Realmuto had four RBI's in the game and former Muckdog Brian Anderson went 3-3 with three runs scored in the game.
