Spinners Snap Skid in 4-3 Victory

July 25, 2019 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Lowell Spinners News Release

ABERDEEN, MD - Going into Thursday's game in Aberdeen, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, were not only staring a season-high four-game losing streak right in the face, but they were facing a series sweep at the hands of the Aberdeen IronBirds, affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles - a first in 2019.

Thanks to a solid performance by both Noah Song and Bryan Lucas on the mound and some clutch hitting by 2019 Draftee Joe Davis, the Spinners (24-13) were able to pull out a tight 4-3 victory over the IronBirds (24-16).

Song - who was making his professional debut - impressed to say the least. While he earned a no-decision in an inning of work, he picked up two strikeouts out of the four batters that he faced.

Lucas picked it up from there, earning the win in six strong innings of work. He allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Kris Jackson picked up the save, with Jenrry Mejia collected the hold.

Lowell got on the board in the top of the third inning when Gilberto Jimenez reached on a bunt single to the Aberdeen catcher Lenin Rodriguez. Rodriguez's throw was a wild one and got away from first baseman Ian Evans, allowing Nick Decker to score - cutting the IronBird lead in half.

In the top of the seventh, however, the Spinners took the lead on a three-run home run by Davis - his second pro home run and first since coming of the Injured List - that scored Nick Northcut and Elih Marrero from first and second respectively.

Lowell is back in action on Friday night when they take on the Staten Island Yankees (19-19) in a doubleheader at Richmond County Ballpark. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
