S P I N - N O T E S:
Bats Go Quiet: After seven straight games with 10 or more hits, the Spinners were limited to just one hit after the third inning, finishing with just six hits while the Brooklyn Cyclones cycled the bases, totaling 15 hits and seven walks as they raced past an early two-run deficit to take the series opener, 9-3, Sunday evening...With the Cyclones pounding out hits and walks as the Spinners utilized five pitchers the game was played at a crawling pace of three hours and 14 minutes.
Two In, One Out : A pair of corner infielders joined the team Sunday afternoon, with 3B Aneudis Peralta arriving from the Greenville Drive and INF Nick Moore arrived back from Hi-A Salem...Peralta, who went 0-for-1 in a pinch hitting appearance Sunday, was batting .269 (25-for-93) with five doubles and seven RBI...Moore, who was hitting .254 with three home runs and 13 RBI, got into just five games with the Salem Red Sox, picking up two hits and stealing a base...With the two corner infielders coming in, RHP Ty Buttrey headed out, concluding his Minor League Rehab Assignment and re-joining the Greenville Drive...In three appearances for the Spinners, Buttrey allowed six runs (four earned) on 11 hits in 11.2 innings, striking out 12.
Eight-Straight: SS Mauricio Dubon extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games with a beautiful bunt single in the sixth inning, the only Spinners hit outside of the second and third innings...Dubon has five multi-hit games during that stretch and is batting .419 (13-for-31) during the hitting streak, raising his average to .286 on the season.
Mars Closing In: OF Danny Mars has been the Spinners leading hitter since arriving, recording hits in 22 of his 25 games played while reaching base in 23-of-25...Mars extended his hitting streak to 10 games Sunday afternoon and now has 114 plate appearances, two short of qualifying for the league leaders, which requires a minimum of 2.7 PA/team games played ... Mars currently would rank third in the league, trailing just Rowan Wick, formerly of State College, and Bobby Boyd of Tri-City.
Betts Streak Snapped : 3B Jordan Betts was 0-for-3 with a walk Sunday evening, snapping his season-long hitting streak at nine games...Betts, who is receiving a night off Monday, has recorded hits in 11 of his last 13 games, though the 0-for-3 game dropped his average below the .300 mark to .296.
Drehoff Searching for Win: LHP Jake Drehoff gets the ball tonight for his team-high ninth start of the season as he continues to search for his first win of the year ... Drehoff ' s best start of the season, July 17 at Batavia, saw him go five innings, allowing just five hits without allowing a run, but did not earn the win.
No Arm Unscathed : It was a day to forget for the Spinners pitchers Sunday evening, as the team saw their team ERA balloon up to a league worst 4.99...RHP Mario Alcantara was tagged with the loss, escaping a bases loaded jam in the in the fourth with a strikeout, but allowed two runs in the fifth to take the loss...RHP Chandler Shepherd (2 IP, 1 R), RHP Brandon Show (0.1 IP, 3 R) and RHP Enfember Martinez (1.2 IP, 1 R) all were touched for at least one run.
