Frederick, MD- A big seven run fourth inning propelled the State College Spikes to a 12-3 win on Saturday, setting up a rubber match on Sunday afternoon.

After the first two batters walked for the Keys in the first, Taylor Smith drove them both in with a double to open the scoring for the evening

After two hits put runners in scoring position and nobody out for the Spikes, Braeden Blackford drove in State College's first run on a sacrifice fly. That would be all they got in the inning, however, as a lineout and groundout stranded a runner at third.

After two more hits began the inning for State College in the third, they tied the game on a Luis Aviles RBI single, and took the lead on a knock by Brennen Dorighi put the Spikes ahead 3-2.

It did not take the Keys very long to even the game in the bottom half. After Hylan Hall singled to lead off the inning, he eventually scored on a Trenton Jamison single.

The Spikes' offense proceeded to erupt in the fourth inning. After a leadoff walk, Walker Zander was able to retire the next two batters. After a single and walk kept the inning alive and loaded the bases, Carlos Contreras ripped the first pitch he saw into right field to put the Spikes ahead. Luis Aviles then proceeded to clear the bases with a triple. Another run scored on a wild pitch before Blackford knocked in another pair. In the end, 11 men came to the plate in a seven run frame.

After Payton Harden knocked a one out double in the fifth, Contreras added to his good night with another RBI, adding to the lead.

Trailing 11-3, Zaid Walker knocked a one out double but was left stranded in the bottom of the fifth.

After a pair of one out hits in the sixth inning, State College manufactured another run on an RBI groundout from a debuting Jake Sisto, making the score 12-3.
