State College Spikes News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - Walker Gourley contributed two hits for the State College Spikes, including an RBI triple to bring in a seventh-inning insurance run in the seventh and final inning, and the Spikes held on to beat the Jamestown Jammers, 4-2, in the first game of a doubleheader at Russell Diethrick Park on Thursday night.

Josh Smith (2-1) got the win in relief for State College (32-37) with 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Kyle Haynes (7) earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning of work.

Luis Heredia went 4 2/3 innings in the start for the Spikes, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two. Heredia did not earn credit for the win as he fell just shy of the five-inning requirement for the victory, which exists even in a seven-inning game.

Mason Hope (3-4) took the loss for Jamestown (29-39). Hope allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out four over six innings atop the hill.

Dalton Friend (3-1) starts for State College against Jamestown's Ryan Newell (2-2) in game two, starting at approximately 7:20 p.m.

A complete recap of both games will follow the second game.
