
Tigers Earn Two-Game Split

NORWICH-The Connecticut Tigers (31-38) scored seven runs on 10 hits to earn a 7-3 win over the Tri-City ValleyCats (50-20) at Dodd Stadium on Thursday night.
DH Carlos De Los Santos (2-4), 3B Tyler Hanover (1-3) and DH Zach Kirksey (0-4) added RBIs for the Tigers in the victory.
The Tigers scored a single run in both the first and third innings. In the first inning De Los Santos walked and went to third base on a single by CF Jake Stewart (3-4). De Los Santos scored on a groundout by Kirksey for a 1-0 lead.
LF Danry Vasquez (2-5) singled with two outs in the third inning and went to second base when Kirksey walked. He scored on a single by Hanover for a 2-0 lead.
Connecticut added a run in the fourth inning and fifth innings.
RF Patrick Smith (0-3) walked and stole second base before scoring on a single slapped into left field by De Los Santos for a 3-0 lead. The Tigers plated a run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for a 4-0 advantage.
The ValleyCats scored two runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 4-2 before the Tigers took advantage of poor defense by Tri-City to score three runs in the sixth inning. SS Jared Reaves (1-4) hit a one-out double in the seventh inning and scored on a single by De Los Santos. Stewart doubled De Los Santos to third base and both runners scored when Vasquez reached on an error by 2B Jean Batista.
The Tigers welcome in the Lowell Spinners for a weekend series on Friday night that begins at 7:05 p.m. It's the final "Friday Fireworks" with a fireworks show after the game sponsored by Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross. It's also "Norwich Navigators Night" with the Tigers set to wear special Navigator jerseys at the game. The first 200 fans will receive a vintage Norwich Navigators team baseball card set and random fans will be selected to win Navigator merchandise throughout the night! There will also be a special pre-game blood drive sponsored by Lawrence and Memorial Hospital and the American Red Cross at Dodd Stadium from 1-5 on Friday afternoon. In addition, fans that show a Norwich Navigators hat or t-shirt when buying tickets at the Dodd Stadium Box Office will receive a premium ticket for the 1995 cost of just 8 dollars.
Lowell will send RHP Pat Light (0-2, 2.96) to the mound while the Tigers will start RHP Edgar De La Rosa (4-4, 3.36). Pre-game radio coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and online at www.cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
