Spikes Take Game One From Jammers

JAMESTOWN, NY - The State College Spikes scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Jamestown Jammers, 3-2, in game one of a doubleheader at Russell Diethrick Park on Thursday night.

Justin Byler's bases-loaded walk and Pat Irvine's RBI fielder's choice provided the eventual game-winning runs in the first of two games scheduled for seven innings. Brock Holt went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Teddy Fallon (1-1) earned the win for State College (20-20) after allowing an unearned run on one hit in one inning of work. Owen Brolsma (1) got the save with a one-run eighth inning. Phillip Irwin started and went five scoreless innings, his longest outing as a professional. Irwin allowed two hits and hit one batter while striking out two.

Stephen Richards (0-1) took the loss for Jamestown (14-26) after being charged with both eighth-inning runs. Richards allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Game two is scheduled to start at 8:55 p.m. Right-hander Maurice Bankston (2-3) will start for State College against Jamestown righty Dan Mahoney (0-6).
