State College Spikes News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY-The State College Spikes split a doubleheader with the Jamestown Jammers Thursday night at Russell Diethrick Park, taking game one in eight innings, 3-2, before dropping a 9-4 decision in game two.
Brock Holt was the offensive star for State College (20-21), going 3-for-4 in game one and delivering his fourth home run of the year, a three-run shot to right field, in game two.
In game one, the Spikes scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to beat Jamestown (15-26). Justin Byler's bases-loaded walk and Pat Irvine's RBI fielder's choice provided the eventual game-winning runs after an error loaded the bases with one out.
Teddy Fallon (1-1) earned the win for State College after allowing an unearned run on one hit in one inning of work. Owen Brolsma (1) got the save with a one-run eighth inning. Phillip Irwin started and went five scoreless innings, his longest outing as a professional. Irwin allowed two hits and hit one batter while striking out two.
Stephen Richards (0-1) took the loss for Jamestown (14-26) after being charged with both eighth-inning runs. Richards allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one.
The Spikes took a 3-2 lead in the third inning on Holt's home run in game two, but the Jammers retook the lead in the bottom of the third and never lost it, putting the game away with a grand slam by Ernesto Manzanillo in the sixth. Mike Williams (1-1) took the loss for the Spikes, while Skyler Crawford (1-0) got the win for the Jammers.
The Spikes return home on Friday to meet the Auburn Doubledays for a 7:05 p.m. matchup. Left-hander Tyler Cox (4-2) is slated to start for State College against Auburn right-hander Scott Gracey (1-4).
It will be a 4 for $44 Friday at the ballpark, as fans can get four Diamond Club seats, four hot dogs, and four small sodas for just $44. Fans can also enter to win a trip for two to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, including two nights of oceanfront accomodations, round-trip air for two, and two tickets to a live entertainment show.
