State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA - State College Spikes fans can enjoy two of the final three opportunities to sample the fun, affordable family entertainment at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this week when the Auburn Doubledays (Toronto Blue Jays) come to town for a pair of 6:35 p.m. contests on Wednesday, September 1^st and Thursday, September 2^nd .
The new month kicks off with the last Half-Price Wednesday of the season, presented by Froggy 101. Fans can get into the game with half-price Outfield Bleacher tickets, then satisfy their thirst with half-price medium sodas all game long and half-price specials on select domestic beer drafts from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Plus, it's Stone Broke College Student Night, where collegians who are a little light in the wallet as the school year begins can have the chance to earn some much-needed supplies and attention.
Thursday night, kids eat for free thanks to Dairy Queen Grill and Chill when the Spikes complete their series against the Doubledays. All kids ages 12 and under will receive a voucher good for a free hot dog, chips and sodas as they come through the gates. The first 1,000 fans of all ages will also receive a Spikes Football courtesy of Penn State Federal Credit Union, helping them to gear up for Penn State's home opener on Saturday at Beaver Stadium. The Spikes will also honor the cultures of the world on International Night at the park.
Penn State fans will get a thrill as well when former All-American wide receiver Kenny Jackson throws out the ceremonial first pitch before Thursday's game. Jackson, a key contributor to the Nittany Lions' 1982 National Championship team, is still second all-time in receiving yards with 2,006. After being selected in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, Jackson spent eight years in the league with the Eagle and Houston Oilers. Jackson also helped develop future NFL stars Bobby Engram, Freddie Scott and Joe Jurevicius as Penn State's wide receivers coach from 1993-2000.
In addition to having their very own night, college students can also take advantage of the special offers available for the final three Spikes home games. The 3-2-1 Special lets any college student across Central PA showing the proper ID purchase $3 Outfield Bleacher tickets, with $2 small sodas and $1 hot dogs available all game long. College students can also partake in the 4 for $24 special, with four Outfield Bleacher tickets, four small sodas and four hot dogs available for just $24.
