Spikes Come Back, But Jammers End up with 5-4 Decision

STATE COLLEGE, PA -- Kelson Brown's two-run double in the sixth inning put the State College Spikes ahead, but the Jamestown Jammers plated two runs themselves in the ninth to snatch the victory, 5-4, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Wednesday night.

State College (27-30) had taken the initial lead in the game, going out in front 2-0 through three innings. Jamestown (35-22) responded with a pair of home runs to take a 3-2 lead, with Marcell Ozuna's league-leading 16^th blast of the season scoring two runs to put the Jammers ahead.

However, Brown followed Chase Lyles's double and Pat Irvine's walk with a two-bagger to the warning track in left field, enabling the Spikes to retake the lead at 4-3.

The Jammers would have the last response, though, with the tying run scoring on Brent Keys's squeeze bunt single and the eventual game-winning run coming home on Danny Black's RBI single.

Brown added a single to go 2-for-4 on the night. Lyles went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while New York-Penn League All-Star Adalberto Santos went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in his return to the lineup. Gerlis Rodriguez knocked in another run for State College after replacing Andy Vasquez in the lineup when Vasquez was transferred to Single-A West Virginia shortly before game time.

Spikes starter Zack Von Rosenberg went five innings and allowed just one run on four hits, but did not factor in the decision. Von Rosenberg also walked two and struck out six in the effort. Justin Ennis (2-2) took the loss after being tagged with both ninth-inning runs on a total of four hits. Ennis also struck out five in his two-plus frames on the mound.

Zach Robertson (1-0) earned the win in relief for Jamestown, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing two hits and a walk. Robertson also notched three strikeouts. Jordan Conley (11) picked up the save with a perfect ninth inning.

Ryan Muecklish joined Ozuna in homering for the Jammers, launching a solo shot to left field in the fourth inning. Black collected three hits for Jamestown, as well.

Thursday, the Spikes face the Jammers at 7:05 p.m. for the second game of a three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College will send left-hander Zack Dodson (2-3) to the mound to face Jamestown right-hander Zachary Neal (0-0), who makes his first start for the Jammers.

Plus, by a stroke of luck, Medlar Field at Lubrano Park will not only go to the animals with a live tiger in the park for Out of the Woods and Wildlife Night on Thursday, August 19^th, but it's also Golf Night. Although the night also features a Tiger Webkinz giveaway for the first 1,000 kids ages 12 and under through the gates, no endorsement from any golfer, living or dead, should be construed, however badly some golfers may need endorsements at this point in time.

The tiger will appear (in a cage, of course) near Ike's Kids Zone in left field, and comes to the ballpark courtesy of T&D's Cats of the World. All kids 12 and under eat for free on Thursday, too, courtesy of Dairy Queen Grill and Chill. Kids will receive vouchers good for a free hot dog, chips and soda at the gates.
