Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - Aug. 8, 2012 - Pensacola Ice Flyers head coach, Gary Graham, has announced that Jordan Chong, Southern Professional Hockey League Co-Rookie of the Year, has signed with the Ice Flyers for the 2012-13 season.
Chong, originally from North Vancouver, British Columbia, had an outstanding rookie season in 2011-12 with the Ice Flyers, recording a league high amongst rookies with 34 assists, as well as 21 goals in 56 games. His 55 points placed him tied for first in team scoring, in the top 10 in league scoring and second in rookie scoring. Chong was also named to the SPHL All-Rookie Team and has earned a tryout with the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL.
"I am thrilled to have Jordan sign, and equally excited for him to have an opportunity to tryout at the AA level," Graham commented. "Chong is an exciting player that competes every shift, night in and night out. He's a skilled player who has a gritty element to his game and makes his teammates around him better."
Jordan played Division III hockey for St. Scholastica College in Duluth, Minn., for four years, leading the team with 17 goals scored and 20 assists for 37 points in 28 games, during his senior season in 2009-10. He was also named first-team All-American and first-team All-Star following his senior year. Prior to his collegiate career, he played for the Dryden Ice Dogs in the Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL), where he led the team in scoring with 76 points in 47 games in his final season.
"I'm very excited to have signed with the Ice Flyers once again," said Chong. "Last year was an incredible experience and I look forward to many of the same experiences next season. With a solid core of guys returning, and what looks like great new talent coming to our team, I believe this team will exceed the success of last year's team."
